Senior Year Checklist

You have a lot to think about before high school graduation.  Here are just some of the things you won't want to forget to do.  Be sure to know your deadlines and plan early!

1.  Get your senior portraits scheduled, taken and ordered!  Celebrate this milestone and get the photos you need for your applications, sorority recruitment, grad party, etc.   You most likely won't get your portraits professionally made again until your wedding day so don't miss documenting this important time.

2.  Prepare your resume to send when requesting letters of recommendation.   You'll want to be sure to include your service hours, community involvement, GPA, leadership roles, academic awards, SAT/ACT scores and a copy of your transcript.

3.   Apply for scholarships.  Your school and community will have local scholarships but be sure to also check out sites like bigfuture.com, fastweb.com, scholarship.com for others you may qualify to receive.  It's always worth a try!

4.  Fill out your FAFSA.  Some of those scholarships you apply for will require it.  It takes about 20-30 minutes.  Here's the link!

5.  Request those sorority letters of recommendation if you plan to go through recruitment.  You'll want to start making a list of contacts you (or your mom has) who was in each sorority of which your college has an active chapter. You'll want to start this much earlier than you think to avoid stress when you're trying to start the recruitment process.  Remember, it's best to ask someone who really knows you to submit your recs!

6.  Do something fun for Spring Break.  After graduation you and your friends may scatter to different schools, be busy with jobs, etc.  Be sure to make some fun memories together while you are all still on the same schedule and in the same city!

7.  Plan your grad party.  Decide where to have it, who to invite and set the date.  Then tell your friends your date so you can all be sure you don't conflict with each others or consider having a big combined one with one or a few others!

8. Find your roommate.  Some colleges use their own roommate-matching sites so be sure you know what yours uses.  A few popular independent sites include the following: Roomsurf, Uloop, Handshake, etc.  Get to know each other if you don't already and be sure you can see yourself living with them.  Then apply for housing, get your dorm assignment and plan the room decor!

9. Write thank you notes to anyone who writes your rec letters or gives you a grad gift!

10. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!  Life will never be as simple as it is right now again for you.  Enjoy this time and make the most of it!  Oh and take LOTS of pictures!
